Ferry capsizes in storm: dozens missing
January 11, 2009
Hello,
This post has new editing at the foot of the post.
Oh no!! Since boxing day 2004 Asia seems to suffer one tragedy after another, mostly with the water element of nature. I really hope they are all found.
AT LEAST 100 people were reported missing late last night when a ferry, hit by waves from a tropical cyclone, capsized in eastern Indonesia.
The passenger ferry, Teratai Prima, had left the Sulawesi town of Pare-pare and was travelling through the Makassar Straits for the Indonesian half of Borneo, Kalimantan, with about 250 passengers and 18 crew, Indonesia’s Transport Ministry said.

January 11, 2009
Hello,
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—The box turtle is disappearing across Malaysia because of increased illegal hunting for its meat and use in traditional Chinese medicine, wildlife activists said Wednesday.

Dayak people call for a helping hand
November 29, 2008
The decline of the forest has not only affected the endangered orangutan but also the lives of Orang Dayak, the indigenous people of Kalimantan.
Many reports have described the gloomy fate of the Dayaks, who have yet to benefit from the lucrative business activities going on around them, despite the fact they are the rightful owners of the land. In several reports, a number of Dayaks have attested they lag behind migrants around them in benefiting from the incoming investment on their lands.

Christmas in Malaysia
November 28, 2008
The observance of the birth of Jesus Christ on Dec 25 is celebrated in Malaysia like everywhere else in the world; it is a time for family and friends; hope and rejoicing; love and understanding; and giving and forgiving.
However, the image of a white Christmas – that of chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and Jack Frost nipping at the nose – doesn’t quite fit in too well with a country that is merely seven degrees shy of the Equator. The average temperatures here range from a low of 22 °C to a high of 33 °C, so a sunny (or perhaps, rainy) Christmas is a given.

Malaysia clerics issue yoga fatwa
November 23, 2008
*Shakes head*…Its not a religeon for goodness sake!! It would not take the place of Islam in any shape or form! Its not like the Muslims would be ‘adoring false Gods’ before them ……or instead of..
Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council said it goes further than that and that elements of the Indian religion are inherent in yoga.
Announcing the decision, the council chairman Abdul Shukor Husin said practices like chanting and what he called worshipping were inappropriate and they could “destroy the faith of a Muslim”.
OK, if it is seen as worship then why not worship by chanting Islam whilst at the same time yoga excercise. Is it not true to say that kneeling and touching the ground with head or lips not a form of worship whilst /exercising?
